What if sustainability were easy?
Washo founder Lukas couldn't let go of this question. And then, as if the universe had been listening, the answer came straight from Canada.
In the form of a simple but brilliant invention: Wash strips instead of plastic bottles AND without unnecessary excess chemicals. Lukas was immediately hooked. Switzerland needs that too!

Start of a green revolution
With a web store, a bike and big dreams, it all started. Lukas personally cycled the first orders to the post office. Facebook posts were shared, comments exploded - apparently Switzerland was just waiting for it!

Bye-bye bike logistics
4,210 orders in just 25 days! The bicycle had to be retired. Who would have thought that "plastic-free" would become a trend so quickly? (Okay, we did - but SO quickly?)

The best present for Washo's half-year birthday: Migros wanted us! Our intern had to read the email three times. Sometimes the best stories are the ones no one expects. (Not even ourselves.)

Naked instead of wrapped in plastic
Launch of our dishwasher tabs without plastic packaging. The idea? Not from us. (But good is good, and we're fans of anything that avoids plastic!)

"Made in Germany" becomes reality
Together with another sustainability start-up, we are starting production in Germany. The demand? Growing faster than a bamboo forest - too fast even for German thoroughness!

The BIG breakthrough
Over 2,000 stores in Switzerland! From Migros and Denner to drugstores and environmental stores. Even Lidl and the post office are included. From two post office branches in Appenzell to the whole of Switzerland.

100,000 times "YES" to less plastic and chemicals. This had to be celebrated at Washo!

Launch of our solid shampoo and shower bars as a complete replacement for shampoo in plastic bottles. Your bathroom will thank you. (And the planet too!)

CHF 200,000 in donations
We have been donating 1% of our turnover since day one. In January 2024, we were extremely proud: we were able to donate CHF 200,000 to social and environmental projects for the first time!

Our 1,000,000th Washo tree is standing! Because at Washo, every purchase is a tree. And if trees could celebrate, they would be dancing the samba right now.
